ABOUT

Durban Girls' College is thrilled to announce an exciting evening of choral and orchestral music in collaboration with Kearsney College.

Kearsney College Music has become synonymous with vibrant, energetic performances and slick, professional productions with its signature blend of classical, pop and indigenous music. The choir, under the leadership of Bernard Krüger, boasts a long list of international accolades, including being crowned Champions at the Golden Voices of Barcelona International Choir Competition in July 2024. The Kearsney Orchestra, under the baton of Jonas Brolin, performs regularly in musical and school events alongside the choir. Next year they plan to undertake and international tour.

The DGC Choir and Orchestra will perform under the direction of Ronel Perks and Cathy Peacock respectively. One of the high points of the DGC Choir’s musical journey was the performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria in 2012 at a sold-out concert at the Mariannhill Monastery, as part of the Baroque 2000 series. In 2023, the choir participated once again in the celebrated Music in the Mountains festival at the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School. Earlier this year, the choir toured Cape Town, performing in combined concerts at schools in Stellenbosch and Somerset West and participating in the Youth Choir section of the Mzansi Conductor’s Convention.

Over the past three years, the DGC Orchestra has achieved notable success in the National SASBA competition, securing top honours in their category and performing at prestigious venues like The

Playhouse. They have also collaborated with the KZN Youth Orchestra for their showcase concert in May. Their diverse repertoire includes classical, rock, pop, and South African favourites.

The evening promises to be filled with beautiful music by our talented young musicians. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear exceptional performances by the Durban Girls’ College and Kearsney College Orchestras and Choirs.
