ABOUT
RMB ULTRA-TRAIL CAPE TOWN 2024
VOLUNTEER SIGN UP PROCESS:
We value the role all our volunteers play in RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town® and have put together some basic information to provide you with all you will need regarding working on the event. Before you sign up, please read through the following information so you have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of volunteering.
It is important that you take some time to go through the different shifts, make sure your selections do not clash, and, please don’t sign up for every role just so your name is on our list. We do encourage you to sign up for double shifts where relevant if you know you can do the extra hours. For example at an Aid Station or Mountain Marshalling point.
Please Note: You are required to sign up online for yourself only. Please don’t sign up for others and feel free to share the link with friends and family.
Volunteering at RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town® requires a special kind of person. Yes, you need to love running and being outdoors, but you also need to understand that it is a long day out and signing up is a commitment not to be taken lightly. We rely on our volunteers and it’s a serious responsibility. Last-minute cancellations throw the team out so it’s not cool unless you have a really valid reason!
We don’t pay our volunteers, but we offer you a discounted entry to our Summit Event races during 2025. You get the opportunity to spend the day helping runners out on the route or at the Race Village, plus you also get a Crew T-shirt. The Cape Town trail community is a special one, and it’s rewarding to be a part of an event where the sense of community is so apparent. We ask that you bring a sense of humour and a desire to work hard and give back to the trail-running community.
Each volunteer will receive:
- A Terrex Crew T-shirt.
- A R450 discount on a single entry to one of the following events:
- Ultra-trail Drakensberg 2025
- RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town® 2025
- Please note that discounts are not carried over to the following year.
Please make sure you are aware of the different roles and the days that we require volunteers. There are various roles we are looking to fill so please make sure you indicate your preference when you sign up. The roles we are looking to fill are as follows:
ROUTE RESPONSIBILITIES:
We require volunteers to assist on the various routes in the following capacity
ROUTE MARKERS:
Experienced route markers are needed during Race Week from Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 November 2024. This is a small group of trail runners who work well as a team and who are used to a long day out, often in the heat of the day. There will be a Route Marking Workshops to give you an idea of what is expected. Your contact person is Jaco Janse van Rensberg and he is responsible for assigning you to your specific route, your group and will communicate all the relevant information to you.
FORERUNNERS:
Experienced forerunners are needed in the early hours of Friday 22 , Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November of Race Week. The forerunners are a small, experienced group of trail runners who work well in a team. All six races require groups of forerunners to ensure the route is well marked, check if any route markers have been removed or tampered with and that everything is in place for the runners.
SWEEPS:
Experienced sweeps are required for all six races - from Friday 22 through to Sunday 24 November. This is not an opportunity to run the race as a freebie or at your own pace. Sweeps are out there for the long haul and will run behind the slowest runner so it is a long hike. Positions are limited and we require experienced trail runners. Your contact person is Jan Ham and he is responsible for assigning you to a specific race and route, will put you into groups and communicate all the relevant information with you.
