Dee Mayekane

ABOUT

Siphesihle Suriya Mayekane known 

as Dee is born in Nyanga East and  

bred in the dusty streets of  

Khayelitsha. Dee is a popularly  

known as a beast who always leaves  

the stage blazing with her soulful 

voice. It is evident that I‘ve inherited  

the gift of music from my family.  

I am a product of Cape Town  

Academy of Music trained under the  

Award Winning Composer and  

Screenwriter Dr Kinsey, that’s where  

I received a distinction for the Grade 

8 Rock Pop Trinity London exam 

repertoire and further continued for  

her MA Diploma. 

In 2018 I took part in Youth Jazz  

Festival at Artscape, mentored by 

the five acclaimed South African jazz  artists by the likes of Amanda Tiffin,  Mandisi Dyantjis, Wesley Rustin, and  

Frank Paco together with Mark  Fransman.. Also performed along  with the powerful well known  musicians such as Jimmy Dludlu,  Camillo Lombard, Ringo Madlingozi,  Brian Themba, Herbie Tsoaelle at  Berlin Jazz Festival and many more. 

I’ve also made my debut and  represented Cape Town as a top 16  finalist on Idols South Africa season  16. Despite of the disappointment of  not making it through the  

competition my contribution on  Idols will always be remembered.  

My focus for now is to build myself  as a brand and hone my craft and get  ready to share my sensational voice  with the world!
