ABOUT
"Mesmeric show captures the underbelly of Jozi beast." — Daily Maverick.
A 35-minute hand-drawn animation accompanied by live music and spoken word performance by IIIFoet, a collective of artists pushing the boundaries of storytelling.
Metropolar is an immersive multimedia performance that blends poetry, live music, and visual art to tell the story of Johannesburg. Led by award-winning poet Modise Sekgothe, this show reimagines the city’s contrasts through powerful spoken word, mesmerising guitar by Jotam Schoeman, and James Frank Robb's experimental soundscapes. Journey through Johannesburg’s streets and her hidden layers in a one-of-a-kind sensory experience.
This unique performance will be showcased at The Bioscope, Johannesburg’s only truly independent cinema for the past 12 years. Now based at 44 Stanley in Milpark, The Bioscope specialises in screening locally produced content and topical documentaries. With just 47 seats, it offers an intimate, alternative experience for film lovers, far from the mainstream fare of commercial cinemas. The venue has become a vital cultural hub for Johannesburg, bringing diverse films and performances to new audiences.
