Join us for an evening with Francesco Visani and Mauro Pavesi from Marchesi Antinori, producer of the iconic Super Tuscan wine, Solaia.
The Tenuta Tignanello estate is situated in the heart of Chianti Classico. Two of the estate’s prized vineyards are both nestled into the same hillside - Tignanello and Solaia. Arguably the most revered of the Super-Tuscan legends, Solaia was originally made and bottled as an experiment when, in 1978, the Tignanello estate just outside Florence produced excess Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for its eponymous blend; this juice was bottled separately under the name Solaia meaning ‘The Sunny One’.
The quality immediately struck the Antinori family as something very special indeed and a 10ha parcel was separated for producing Solaia (later extended to its current 20ha size). It is not made every year – there have been five vintages since its inception where the grapes were not considered of sufficient quality.
Seats are limited to just 24 guests, in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. Included in the line-up of wines is the 100-pointer (Antonio Galloni) 2021 vintage of Solaia!
