ABOUT

grunge

/gr?n(d)?/

noun, informal: grime, dirt.

Sometime during the mid-80's, a vibrant, indie music scene was growing fast in the Northwestern state of Washington, USA, centered around the rainy, often gloomy, city of Seattle. For many of these bands and artists trying to make a living, getting a studio recording to sound clean was often expensive and time-consuming. Many of them found it was easier to just turn the volume up.

From this loose fusion of punk & metal, a dark, gritty & uniquely familiar sound came into being and spread across the globe. While the tides may have ebbed & the winds have changed direction, the era of grunge left a lasting legacy of unforgettable bands and iconic albums that changed the landscape of music forever.

Join Drain at the Daisy Jones Bar in Stellenbosch on the 8th of November, when we'll be drop-tuning strings & turning up the amps for another special evening dedicated to honoring the sounds that helped to shape a generation of music lovers.
