It may not be too much of a stretch to say that no other individual has had a greater impact on what we eat and how we flavour our food. From stock powders, spice mixes, salad dressings to cakes and cake icing pre-mixes, the Ina Paarman brand touches many of us.
In her 82nd year, this doyenne of South African tastes, has launched her “My Favourite Recipes”, a beautifully photographed and produced large-format hardcover cookbook.
From the most humble beginnings running a cookery school from their garage to a global family-run business, The Pringle Proms is proud to present A Compelling Conversation with Mrs Ina Paarman in Pringle Bay.
Pringle Proms founder, Brian Berkman, will interview Mrs Paarman about her life in food. She will talk about how her youngest son Graham and his brother would drop off hand-made flyers to promote her cookery school. Later, after completing his business degree he floated the idea of working together: “You can cook, and I can count,” he said. Twenty-five years later the Ina Paarman Kitchen brand grows from strength to strength.
Berkman will cook lunch from recipes in her new cookbook.
Limited to only 25 people, the Pringle Proms, Ina Paarman in Pringle Bay event, will be on Saturday, October 19 between 12 noon and 3pm. Tickets, only available at Quicket, are R300 each. Guests are invited to bring their own wines and choice beverages.
After lunch together, Berkman will talk to Mrs Paarman about her early days when she left her job to pursue a food business and when later, her husband left his to help build Ina Paarman’s Kitchen into a name on everyone’s lips and most of our tongues too. Following Berkman’s 45-minute interview there will be a 15-minute opportunity for guests to pose questions.
The book, Ina Paarman, My Favourite Recipes, will be available for purchase at the event at R400 each.
