The Makabra Ensemble Silent Film Live Soundtrack Performance on Halloween Weekend

This amazing piece of cinematic history from 1911 is the first ever Italian full length feature film!

Adapted from "Inferno", the first canticle of Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy", this groundbreaking film classic chronicles Dante's travel through the Circles of Hell, guided by the poet Virgil.

This will be the 14th film re-scored by The Makabra Ensemble with a new original soundtrack - performed at the HORRORFEST's Labia Theatre home, featuring very special guests Sara Eksteen and Maxim Starcke.

2024 is the 20th edition of the South African HORRORFEST Film Festival & Halloween event running across 30 October - 10 November, with new and classic movies, short films you're unlikely to see anywhere else, Bloody Parchment literature night, Halloween dress-up and more.

Viewers are encouraged to dress up in whatever their choice of Halloween garb.

L'INFERNO was directed by Francesco Bertolini, Adolfo Padovan and Boris Acosta.

It stars Salvatore Papa, Arturo Pirovano, Giuseppe de Liguoro, Augusto Milla.

The Makabra Ensemble was created in 2006 by Sonja Ruppersberg (Terminatryx, Isobel), Sean Ou Tim (Lark, Mr Sakitumi, Battery 9, Jeremy Loops, The Kiffness), Matthijs van Dijk (The ShhArt Ensemble, Dawntreader), Simon Ratcliffe (Lark), Paul Blom (Terminatryx, V.O.D, F8), and was later joined by Ronnie Belcher (Terminatryx, The Damned Crows, Gramlich). Across the years special guests have joined some of the performances including Grimehouse, Charles East, Francois Blom, The Crackpot Realist and more, including 2024 returning guests Sara Eksteen and Maxim Starcke.

With 13 feature films and a short (Frankenstein) silent film adaptations, some of the movies The Makabra Ensemble re-scored since 2006 include Nosferatu, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, The Phantom Of The Opera, Metropolis, Haxan, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Vampyr, Faust, The Phantom Carriage and more.
