Georgetown: A Harmonious Fusion of Folk and Southern African Rhythms

Formed in February 2014, Georgetown is a dynamic multi-instrumental folk band hailing from Pretoria, South Africa. The group, comprising Michael de Villiers, Renaldo van Dyk, Rynier Prins, and Tiaan Erasmus, has captivated audiences with their rich storytelling and diverse soundscapes, gracing stages from local theaters to international festivals.

Rooted deeply in the eclectic musical traditions of Southern Africa, Georgetown blends classic folk sensibilities with unique local influences, creating a sound that is both timeless and refreshingly original. Their performances are a showcase of musical versatility, featuring an array of instruments such as the acoustic guitar, accordion, piano, upright bass, mandolin, harmonica, and even a vintage suitcase kick-drum. This eclectic mix contributes to their distinctive and creative approach to contemporary folk music.

Georgetown's innovative sound and engaging live performances have earned them significant acclaim, including a South African Music Award (SAMA) nomination for Best Contemporary Album. With a track record of over 700 shows both locally and internationally, Georgetown continues to push the boundaries of folk music, uniting audiences across different cultures with their heartfelt melodies and rhythms.

Georgetown will embark on a tour of the Eastern Cape and Garden Route. Joining them for this tour will be legendary drummer Riaan van Rensberg, known for his work on the iconic South African television show Noot vir Noot, and celebrated saxophonist Tebogo Mokhoena, who has just returned from an inspiring journey through the USA. Together, they promise to elevate Georgetown’s performances with their exceptional talent and energy.
