Kloof Rus
ABOUT
Bring your friends & family for an evening of "Stargazing with Vic's Telescopes".
Being in the veld under the dark sky at Kloof Rus near Muldersdrift, you're guaranteed an escape from the city's hustle & bustle. Kloof Rus is a hiking trail with big open planes and not a building in site...a recipe for a great outdoor experience.
Bring food & drinks along and settle in for an evening with nature.
Vicus Cruywagen is a telescope maker and avid observer of the night sky. He will first give a brief talk about the universe and the objects you’ll be observing. Then you'll get a chance to observe a number of celestial objects through a powerful telescope.
If you get there early, you'll get a chance to observe the moon from twilight to sunset, and will see how the moon's craters and surface become more and more defined as the sun sets.
On the menu this month:
> The Moon - observed through a telescope, it's unlike anything you've seen
> Venus
> Saturn - you'll even see its rings!
> Double Stars
> Star Clusters
* Our eyes have to get accustomed to the dark sky in order to spot the stars, so please refrain from using white lights/torches - red lights/torches are preferred (an idea is to cover your torch with red cellophane).
* Dress warmly - it can still get quite cold at night.
* IMPORTANT: Bring a camping chair along for each person in your party.
Duration: 60 - 90minutes, depending on the number of attendees.
> If the event has to be cancelled because of bad weather, you will be refunded <
