ABOUT
AIHLI LEGACY is an e-learning initiative with a digital base in the West Rand of Johannesburg, South Africa that educates and raises awareness on pertinent human rights violations on the continent and globally by focusing on thematic areas; Environmental Justice, Children and Undocumented Persons, Peace and Security, Research and Publications including efforts through its offered Leadership and Mentorship Programs for community leaders, activists, journalist and scholars to develop informed and impactful decision makers.
Currently, it has administered an 8-part advocacy series titled "AIHLI LEGACY 4 Humanity Podcast" with the tagline "Put Yourself in their Shoes". The dual purpose of the discussion has been to educate and to raise awareness on the diverse aspects impacting individuals that are directly and/or indirectly impacted by being an undocumented person. The discussion points on being undocumented as dissected from the AIHLI LEGACY's perspective required a broad overview on the realization of ''what it potentially means'' to be identified under any of these 8 thematic areas of vulnerable groups of people as enlisted as a non-exhaustive list relating to refugees, internally displaced persons, migrants and their families, smuggled or trafficked persons, children and women's rights in reflection of professional, academic and personal stories.
These conversations were in due consideration of the diverse dynamics that potentially leads to individuals requiring a legal status from another state and the identified challenges related to these factors being a daunting task to pursue. AIHLI LEGACY engaged with individuals that have personally, collectively or communally faced with a similar reality and through their expressed stories it enables the potential for viewers to "put themselves indeed in their shoes'' so as to engage on prospective remedies to be sought for all unforeseen potentials of reality handing anyone a different fate.
The frontline advocates of change have ensured that these efforts are not pursued in isolation of the realization of practical and probable remedies through collaborations with organizations and community leaders driving the necessary impact on these challenges and it is through their primary support to the communities that the voices of those unheard are realized.
The advocacy engagements forms part of the efforts towards overcoming historical injustices through learning from one another and identifying areas of improvement in our governing and justice systems that has existing applicable remedies which encourages the potential for reform and in the ability to develop well-informed decision makers so to greatly appreciate strategic methods of holding leaders in decision-makers roles accountable.
Thus, it is with pleasure to announce that preceding the advocacy campaigns AIHLI LEGACY intends to host the AIHLI LEGACY International Human Rights Day Virtual Conference under the theme "Undocumented" on 09 - 10 December 2024 in collaboration with the University of Stirling. Our primary aim is to create a space for impactful dialogues with the goal of seeking to apply practical remedies to historical human rights violations concerning undocumented persons by showcasing multi-stakeholder advocacy approach to remedying these subjects both in Africa and the United Kingdom. Official Announcement - On Free Conference Tickets
It was AIHLI LEGACY's intention to sell the tickets for this conference as an effort to raise funds towards one of its Mentors Ms Precious Nyaruwa Community Empowerment Project (hereinafter CEP) however an alternative method to seek resources for the project would be administered moving forward. The CEP will be implemented by Precious in fulfilment of her leadership and mentorship program as a Cohort 1 "Empower the Mentee to Mentor Program" Alumnus. She is required to lead a CEP in the area of her choice within her beloved country and she has nominated Hwange, Zimbabwe as the location for her pilot project to initiate a Menstrual and Hygiene Advocacy Program which aims to get young Zimbabwean girls to school during their menstrual cycle and defeating the narrative on period poverty.
Included in these joint efforts in light of the current droughts experienced in most part of the continent and Zimbabwe being one of the countries challenged. AIHLI LEGACY decided to collaborate on the advocacy efforts to be administered by Precious to include the drilling of a borehole for a community vegetation project in support of promoting food security for the community in Hwange as a pilot program towards the realization of humanity, ubuntu and Africanism.
It is with that in mind that it remains incumbent on the youth and societies to join hands in addressing challenges in relation to the basic right to access clean water and education on a girl child's menstrual cycle with the inclusion of raising awareness on all genders for a comprehensive community resolution.
