ABOUT

Steven Sokuyeka Trombonist from Cape town, started playing trumpet mentored by his father Roy Sokuyeka. He shifted and picked up trombone to play in Cup's Nkanuka's big band, he was the youngest in the band. The Band had local Legends such as Ezra, Duke, Fitzroy Ngcukana, Victor Kula, Roger Khoza, Tete Mbambisa to name a few. From then he started playing with some of these Legends aside from the Big band for small ensembles, Roger Khoza and Pheka, Tete Mbambisa Septet, Ezra Ngcukana, the Little Giants to mention few. He grew up alongside those musicians trying to learn and grasp as much from. He played around and recorded with some, Cup's and Saucers Big band, Roger Khoza,Blacky Tempi, Masauko Chipembere, Buddy Wells, Herbie Tsoaeli Little Giants. Steven Sokuyeka recently been playing for Tete Mbambisa Sextet, Herbie Tsoaeli, Khaya Mahlangu, just to mention few. He's now leading his own sextet honouring his music teachers and music influencers. He's Sextet has Nickolas Dlakavu on drums, Peter Ndlala on Bass,George Werner piano Buddy Wells on Tenor saxophone, he features his long time friend whom he was with in France Mpumelelo Mnyamana will be playing Alto saxophone
