Unruly- Baxter Extra Ticket Release

Fri Nov 8, 19:00 - Sat Nov 9, 21:30

Baxter Studio (previously Golden Arrow), Baxter Theatre Centre

ABOUT

Empatheatre, in collaboration with the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Unruly Natures research project, proudly presents "UNRULY," a ground-breaking participative and public theatre experience. This unique production, updated with input from audiences during its first tour in June 2024, explores the intricate dynamics of human-baboon interactions in the Cape Peninsula through captivating performance that tenderly and rigorously tends to the human and animal politics. It asks the question: “How should we, as humans, act towards a nature that doesn’t always behave the way we expect it to?” and tells stories of living in the intersection between human and baboon worlds.

UPDATE: Most of the shows are fully booked but we released some extra tickets for Baxter shows! If there are no tickets available, please try again later because there might be cancellations.

About "UNRULY":

"UNRULY" is more than just a theatrical performance; it is based on extensive research into the lived experiences of Cape Peninsula residents, and delves into the politics of neighbours, personal and historical accounts of the Cape Peninsula - and the unpredictable nature of mountain, ocean, urban and military environments, prone to wildfires, sea surges and messy human-animal relations. Renowned performer Andrew Buckland alongside Chantal Willie-Petersen offer an astounding performance of humour, pathos and physical theatre, promising an unforgettable performance that will provoke thought and inspire dialogue across differences.

Audience Participation and Research Collaboration:

Audiences are invited to engage actively in the "UNRULY" experience. Following the 90 minute performance, attendees will have the opportunity to share their reflections and engage in discussions about the story. These conversations will contribute valuable insights to the ongoing research of the Unruly Natures project, fostering a deeper understanding of human-wildlife interactions, and help city, community forums, local municipalities and the general public explore new ways of understanding how we might live well together in a rapidly changing world.

Attendance is free, but book your spot

Attending this event is completely free, but since the audience will be kept relatively small, we ask everyone to book your ticket in advance. If you live in a baboon-visited area, we recommend that you pick a venue close to it, since post-show discussions are more likely to be relevant to you. You can read more about the project on the Unruly Natures website.
