ABOUT
Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, John Paul McGee began playing familiar hymns and church songs at the age of four, despite having no formal training. Recognizing his special talent, his mother made significant sacrifices to ensure he received formal musical education and development.
Dr. McGee graduated from Baltimore School for the Arts in 2002 and has received numerous awards throughout his career. His musical journey has taken him around the world as a keyboardist, vocal arranger, producer, and songwriter, collaborating with well-known artists such as Patti LaBelle, The Isley Brothers, The Clark Sisters, the NFL Players Choir, VaShawn Mitchell, Kim Burrell, and Earnest Pugh. His instrumental piano album, released in 2018 with EPM Records, reached #9 on the Billboard charts for top recording artists.
Currently, Dr. John Paul McGee serves as the Assistant Chair of Piano at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Piano Performance from Bethune-Cookman University, a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University, a Master of Sacred Music with a focus on Pipe Organ Performance from Emory University, and a Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Counseling from The Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA.
His groundbreaking dissertation, "A Sound for Distressed Souls: Gospel Jazzical as an NTU Approach for Coping with the Vocational Stressors of the Black Pastor," explores the healing and transformative powers of his innovative genre, Gospel Jazzical. This unique sound fuses Gospel, Jazz, and Classical music to create an uplifting and inspiring experience for all who hear it.
In addition to his musical talents, Dr. JP—affectionately known— is a sought-after preacher, workshop facilitator, panelist, clinician, and speaker on global worship and church leadership.
Doors open at 6pm and show starts at 8pm.
