ABOUT

amaGoduka namaTshipa

- the last gathering of migrant workers (those who always go to the villages in December) and city dwellers (those who haven't been to the villages in a long time or just don't have a home in the villages)

amaGoduka namaTshipa is an offering for those that left their homelands to seek fortune in the city and those that never returned home. amaGoduka, those who have loved ones waiting for them back in the homelands, family members expecting to enjoy the fruits of their labour. amaTshipa, the city dwellers to whom Joburg has become their home, those who can't go back home due to the demands of the plantation.

amaGoduka namaTshipa is an ode to the victims of labour migration and The Group Areas Act . it is a tribute to those who refused dwell in concentration camps aka townships and insist on existing in the city of mine dumps. those who remain anchored in the land of their forefathers, time and again they go back to rejuvenate and regain strength. it is a tribute to those who have fallen victim to the city, to an extent that they now can't even recognise themselves.

the end of November marks the beginning of the infamous exodus/journey of Blacks going back to the homelands. whether you will be going back home or not, come have the last dance with iPhupho L'ka Biko live in the Alley, at Untitled Basement. it will be a special night filled with Love, Healing and Resistance.
