Friday Night Live is a series of beautiful, intimate performances from some of the most exciting talent Cape Town and South Africa has to offer, hosted at the KAYA Café. Friday Night Live is an event for performers to take in their own direction, creating an environment for audiences to engage deeply with the music, the meaning, and the people behind it all.

TANAKA is an indie-pop artist with up-tempo instrumentation paired up with dreamy soundscapes and introspective lyricism. The release of his self-produced debut EP, You Look Beautiful in This Light garnered more than 150,000 streams on streaming services, showcasing his songwriting and sound. Drawing inspiration from artists like Rex Orange County, Jakob Ogawa and Luna Li, Tanaka takes listeners to familiar place that they have been to before

The show will be opened by FRAEULEIN ASTRID, an Austrian based artist whose earlier songs were delicate, natural and intimate. Joined by drummer Felix Paschke, Astrid now showcases more experimental, electronic influences layered with vocals and synthesizers highlighting her skills in production and songwriting. In May 2024, Fraeulein Astrid released her debut EP, "my therapist says you're an asshole" which honored her with the Morgenstern Prize from the state of Styria for her project. This annual award recognizes "artists whose work resonates strongly with audiences and critics, both within Styria and beyond"
