ABOUT
Friday Night Live is a series of beautiful, intimate performances from some of the most exciting talent Cape Town and South Africa has to offer, hosted at the KAYA Café. Friday Night Live is an event for performers to take in their own direction, creating an environment for audiences to engage deeply with the music, the meaning, and the people behind it all.
The GKD band (Guitars, Keyboard & Drums) was formed in 2018. The band was started when four total strangers were asked to collaborate for a live band performance. The band has since built a solid musical connection combining their great musical experiences, which results in show-stopping performances. Their musical style covers a broad range of genres through Rock, Blues, Reggae, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Latin, Langarm, Standards, Ballads, and so much more.
About the band members:
Ricardo is a fantastic drummer who has performed on both national and international platforms including Westend, Bazique, Rioja Restaurant, Rocking the Daisies, Brass Bell. Ricardo has toured the United Kingdom, and played alongside great musicians such as Salome, Mark Hussey, Wesley Ruston, Andrew Cloete, Donvino Prins, Lyndle Kerns, China, Danielle Bitton, Bev Scott Brown.
An absolute fantastic bass playerand a true veteran in the art,Christian has over 20 yearsplaying experience with variousbands. He has toured the South African provinces, having played with New Birth, The Rockets, Azania Reggae Band, sunkamoto. Artists Christian has performed with include Hugh Masekela, Bev Scott Brown, Lyndle Kerns, China, Danielle Bitton, Donvino Prins.
An amazing guitarist with a rich voice, Brandon has played at the Cape Town Jazz Fest, Westend, House of JC Leroux, Bonkoi Fest, Jazzathon, Piano Bar, OSOBL
Fest, Expresso show, Mojo Market and many more. Brandon has played with Sammy Webber, Allou April, Donvino Prins, Lyndle Kerns, Bev Scott Brown, Danielle Bitton, Runa, Andrew Snyders (the Voice) & Brandon Leigh (KFM 94.5).
Bernie is a multi-talented Cape Town-born musician and started playing the pianoaccordian at the age of 9. He then becamelead guitarist in various pop bands and
later became the drummer of one the biggest gospel groups called "African Sonrise" - twice touring the USA. He then started playing piano, performing various genres such as pop, jazz etc. He has experience playing in Dubai, Oman, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi for the past 15 years. He also teaches music at schools and in his private capacity.
