Stargazing at Casalinga - January

ABOUT

Bring your friends & family for an evening of "Stargazing with Vic's Telescopes". Casalinga function venue in Muldersdrift offers a tranquil setting with large open lawns and dark sky away from the city. Enjoy a drink or meal before or afterwards at Casalinga's restaurant. Take-aways will also be available if you'd prefer to have a picnic under the stars.

Your guide, Vicus Cruywagen, is a telescope maker and avid observer of the night sky. Vic will first give a brief talk about the universe and the objects you’ll be observing. Then you'll get a chance to observe a number of celestial objects through a powerful telescope.

This series of events in December mark the start of our new season of stargazing, as the night sky presents us with new celestial objects to observe. With it being the very start of the new season, our December guests are lucky to see a bit of both seasons' celestial objects, making it SUPER exciting!

On the menu:

> The Moon - observed through a telescope, it's unlike anything you've seen...

> Venus

> Saturn - you'll even see its rings!

> Jupiter - you'll see its gas clouds!

> Nebula

> Double Stars

> Asterisms

> Star Clusters

* Our eyes have to get accustomed to the dark sky in order to spot the stars, so please refrain from using white lights/torches - red lights/torches are preferred (an idea is to cover your torch with red cellophane).

* Dress warmly - it can still get quite cold at night.

* Bring a camping chair along for each person in your party. Picnic blankets welcome. NO food or drinks may be brought onto the premises - you may purchase from the restaurant (take-aways will also be available).

* If the weather is unfavourable for stargazing, the event will be postponed and your tickets allocated to a future date of your choice.
