Intimate concert experiences taking you inside one of the most exclusive pianos in the world.
The Fazioli Series takes place at the Ian-Burgess Simpson showroom in Westlake (just 5 minutes from the Norval Foundation and Steenberg) with three concerts through January and February showcasing the versatility of these special limited edition hand-made pianos.
January 26 Fazioli Solo - Chopin and Grieg with Alexander Ullman (UK).
Praised for his subtle interpretations and refined technical mastery, British pianist Alexander Ullman has impressed audiences and critics worldwide with his deep understanding of the scores he interprets, his elegant touch and crystalline phrasing. Winner of the 2017 Liszt Competition in Utrecht he has performed as a soloist across Europe and is also highly sought after as a chamber musician.
His programme chosen especially for the Fazioli Series features the Peer Gynt Suite Nr 1Op. 46, Grieg's Piano Transcriptions of Songs Op. 41 and will finish with Chopin Etudes Op. 25.
The concert starts at 3pm, and lasts around 1 hour long with seating inbetween and above the pianos. Afterwards guests are invited behind the scenes to the workshop for a complimentary glass of Creative Block wine, kindly sponsored by Spier Wine Farm, where they can explore inside the world of the piano and it's music, with the artists and technicians.

Concert 2: Fazioli & Voice with baritone William Berger and Alex Gabriel (Saturday Feb 8, 3pm)
In 1985, a 5 year old William Berger read poems from South African poet, MER’s children’s poetry collection on SABC TV. Now, four decades later, the internationally acclaimed baritone celebrates his own homecoming with Awie van Wyk’s “Surinkies” – the same poems set to music. Come and be entranced by the beautiful interpretation of these Afrikaans poems and other musical gems by Grieg, Britten and Ravel that will re-awaken the nostalgia of home and childhood.
Concert 3: Fazioli Jazz Unplugged with Ramon Alexander (Saturday Feb 22, 3pm)
Ramon Alexander is both pianist and composer, and is considered as a leading exponent of Cape Jazz. He lectures at Stellenbosch University and performs across the country in all the major festivals. He has chosen a programme of jazz unplugged especially for the Fazioli series in order to fully explore the soundscape of the Fazioli piano.
