Internationally recognised, but hardly known locally, Sara Buijskes (1886-1970) was an early Johannesburg portrait photographer.
Join the JHF for a rare exhibition of Sara’s competition entry work at the extraordinary Rand Club.
Special guest Carol Hardijzer, South African photo historian, will talk on Sara’s life, her work, her resilience against the general public’s uncertainty about a female’s ability behind the lens…and her preference for photographing bearded men.
Let’s raise a glass to a remarkable artist in our beautiful city’s morning light. The professional reproductions of her work will be on sale. Carol’s presentation will be at 11:00.
Arrive early for breakfast or stay on for lunch in the club’s luxurious bar.
The Rand Club is at 33 Loveday Street, Johannesburg. We recommend that you take an Uber as there is little street parking available.
