ABOUT

We are proud to announce that "Hans Crosses the Rubicon” will be our opening night ?lm directed by Corne van Rooyen, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Cape Town. This South African ?lm is an outstanding showcase of directorial & screenwriting brilliance, exceptional acting talent, and a stellar crew. It is poised to captivate both local and international audiences, making it the perfect choice to kick off this year’s festival. Hans is an action-adventure comedy about the hard-headed 90-year-old Hans, who is forced by his estranged daughter into an old-age-home. Once there, Hans comes face to face with the draconian management who restricts and disempowers its residents. Locked and restricted inside it’s forti?ed walls, Hans is forced to become a rebel and activist, a 90-year-old-man who has nothing to lose by revolting. It's marijuana cookies, strippers, and grand escapism. An anti-ageism revolution about growing old on your own terms.

Joining it on the opening night will be the short ?lm, "Milk Brothers” directed by Kenza Tazi from Morocco, a poignant and beautifully subtle period drama that further enriches our North-South dialogue through the lens of African cinema. “It is in a place where bonds are created by breastfeeding that Meriem, a young single mother, will see her life forever changed”.

One of the highlights of the festival will be our glamorous opening night celebration after the ?lm screenings, we will take a one minute walk to The Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation. Guests can enjoy a night of snacks, entertainment, and networking, in Cape Town’s iconic District Six. This historic area, known for its rich cultural vibrancy, will once again be alive with energy, creativity, and celebration. It’s a wonderful way to honour the past while embracing the exciting future of African cinema.
