ABOUT
The Beau Soleil Piano Quartet in collaboration with double bassist Henrike Kovats performs Franz Schubert's famous "Trout" Quintet in A major, D.667. The popular work was composed when Schubert was 22 and yet only published posthumously. The Beau Soleil Piano Quartet comprises Liza Joubert (piano), Lucia Di Blasio-Scott (violin), Marina Louw (viola) and Dane Coetzee (cello). Also on the programme is Mozart's Piano Quartet No 2 in E flat and Joaquin Turina's quartet in A minor, op 67.
Liza Joubert (piano) was born and educated in Stellenbosch, studying piano under Juliana de Villiers and Betsie Cluver. She was the first resident accompanist at the Beau Soleil Music Centre in Cape Town when it opened in 1985 and returned again to the Music Centre in April 2024 after a couple of years pursuing a varied and successful career as a concert pianist and chamber musician. Before returning to Beau Soleil, Liza headed the music departments of South Africa’s only two choir schools, the Drakensberg Boys Choir School and the Cape Choral Academy.
Lucia Di Blasio-Scott (violin) was born in Italy and started her performing career as the Co-Principal of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra in 1983. Seeking new horizons, she auditioned for a position in the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra where she was soon promoted to Vice-Principal First Violin. Lucia has been in Cape Town since 1993 and was a Principal Violin in the CTSO as well as the CTPO. Lucia is also a dedicated chamber musician and the leader and founder member of the Cape Town Pops Orchestra, which has been in collaboration with Richard Cock for the legendary Last Night of the Proms concerts.
Marina Louw (viola) is currently the Principal and Head of Strings at Beau Soleil Music Centre. Marina performed as a soloist at several Youth Music Concerto Festivals as well as with the Cape Town Baroque Ensemble. She was a fulltime member of the National Symphony Orchestra of the SABC before moving to Cape Town, where she regularly freelances for several professional orchestras and chamber groups.
Dane Coetzee (cello) joined Beau Soleil as the full-time cello teacher in October 2021. Prior to that he was a member of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Dane graduated in performance studies from the Universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch respectively. Outside of Beau Soleil he is active as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist, performing across a broad range of music genres. Dane is also active as a musician in the New Apostolic Church.
