ABOUT
The Day Pass only of day 3 of the Human Rights Festival: 22 March 2025
The Activism Row:
The festival provides a safe space where the work of social justice organizations can be recognised and celebrated, and where people can come together to learn about and support human rights activism. These organisations will profile multiple causes in their respective areas of social justice through workshops; dialogues and debates bringing experts together to inform and engage with the public. Activism Row will be curated to facilitate networking and collaboration opportunities for civil society organisations allowing them to connect and engage with other grassroots and national organisations working in the human rights arena.
Town Hall
This is the central meeting place at the festival for civil society organisations and individuals to gather and promote democracy and social justice. Activists, government representatives, entrepreneurs, artists, and creators are invited to participate in these engagements – to meet, collaborate and debate human rights issues.
Film Festival
The Film programme screens stories of current social, political and human rights that are not only relevant to our time but also bring relevant issues to the forefront through film. Post screening discussion will provide audiences with unique engagements, not just with cinema, but with real life events; characters and issues that make up our lived experiences.
Book Fair
The Book Fair aims to contribute to building a writing and publishing movement that recognises the importance of human rights violations. The human rights literary genre deals with human rights issues, and thus – directly or indirectly – promotes values of human rights.
The books showcased combine the literary driving force with the motivation for action, which is a fundamental and integral element of the struggle for protection of human rights.
Children's Festival
Section 28 in the Constitution of South Africa is devoted to children and outlines the rights that they are entitled to. Child protection is everybody’s responsibility. We want a South Africa fit for children.Children should be free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation! Children’s rights are human rights.
A children’s focus area at the festival will showcase the work of organisations in the field of children’s rights.
A full programme of activities for children will run through each day. These will include: Storytelling; Arts and crafts; Educational games, theatre, activities and Music.
