The Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO) presents Magical Flute, an enchanting evening of orchestral brilliance featuring internationally renowned flautist and conductor Stathis Karapanos, bringing his masterful artistry to the stage as both soloist and conductor.
The programme opens with Verdi’s Prelude to Act III from La Traviata, a poignant and expressive orchestral interlude from one of opera’s greatest masterpieces. This will be followed by the highly anticipated world premiere of David Winkler’s Flute Concerto No. 2, a dazzling showcase of the flute’s versatility, performed by Stathis Karapanos, and accompanied by the FSSO. The energy continues with Theodorakis’ Zorbas Suite, a vibrant and rhythmically captivating work with musical roots in the world-famous soundtrack of the 1964 film Zorba the Greek. This version for flute and orchestra was orchestrated by Karapanos. The evening concludes with Schubert’s Symphony No. 5, a graceful and elegant symphony brimming with youthful charm and classical beauty.
