PRESS RELEASE: SIKELELA presents Amongst The Khataza

Music, Amongst the Operation, is a weapon of love and liberation for the people.

Sikelela is a celebration of Ingoma, a practice that embodies the intimate exercise of liberation in action. Inspired by the word "Sikelela," meaning “blessing” from the first phrase of the South African national anthem, this event honors a rich tradition rooted in freedom and expression. Sikelela brings together the visionaries of South Africa's current avant-garde jazz and live music scene, showcasing a dynamic and evolving musical landscape that celebrates both cultural heritage and contemporary innovation.

Introducing Operation Khataza, a dynamic eight-piece band hailing from Cape Town, led by the enigmatic Farrah Khataza, a mystical figure brought to life by singer/songwriter, guitarist, and selector Sanele Blaai. Formed in 2023, the band draws its inspiration from the vibrant, interconnected community of the Observatory neighborhood in Cape Town. With a mission to awaken and unify society, Operation Khataza uses music as a powerful tool for love and liberation. Their high-energy, punchy performances break down social divisions, re-energizing and re-conscientizing audiences through the transformative power of sound.

Amongst The People I Know is the experimental musical project of Tebogo J Mosane, a drummer, composer & producer from Johannesburg, South Africa. As the driving force behind this project he composes, produces, records and performs his music, taking audiences on a journey through his unique blend of experimental soul. He has collaborated and worked with a diverse range of talented artists, including Bleee.t, Toroh O Wano, Crunchy Sweater, Mars Baby, lordkez, Tyson Sybateli, ByLwansta, Amarafleur, Marcus Harvey, Emamkay, Daev Martian, and Rams, etc. With his peculiar approach to music production and his skill as a drummer, he has earned the respect of his peers and fans alike.

IAMSIWAS has DJ’d clubs and festivals in some of the world major music cities: London, Melbourne, Johannesburg, Accra, Dakar, Maputo, Nairobi and Zanzibar.
