Fri Oct 27, 17:00 - Sun Oct 29, 17:00
Khayelitsha Barn, Lookout Hill
ABOUT
Did you know that more than 70% of people visiting Cape Town visit the same ten tourist sites? We know there's more to the City, but can we help people find new things to do and new places to see?CiTi and the City of Cape Town will hold a weekend-long open data hackathon from 27 - 29 October at the Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn. Participants will be challenged to: “Design a digital product that improves the discoverability of unique experiences for tourists in Cape Town”.
The aim is to discover new and innovative digital solutions that can give competitive advantage to tourism businesses and services, aiding our progress towards smart tourism in a smart city.
Hackathon participants will be assisted by mentors and facilitators to guide and give them insight on tourism issues, while guidance on using the Open Data Portal will be provided by the City’s data team.
The data that will be provided to participants at the Hackathon includes:
- Tourist attractions
- Accommodation
- Tourism routes and drives
- Supporting City information from the Open Data Portal: e.g. roads, public transport routes, beaches, parks, nature reserves, etc.
>> Many thanks to the Travel Massive community for their support of this event.
When securing your ticket, please select the PLUS TRANSPORT option if you'll require transport from Woodstock Bandwidth Barn OR to the local taxi rank. If you ask for transport, we will ask for your cellphone number so that we can stay in contact over the weekend.
?PLEASE NOTE that the bus leaves Woodstock Exchange at 4pm on Friday, due to traffic.
