So what’s the deal with this run?

Simple…

Some famous guy (probably the best leader our beautiful country has ever see (Nelson Mandela)) once said…

and chew on this for a second…

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Dude how awesome is that???)

Here goes…

Help us start up a library and reading program in Joe Slovo Park (between Century City/Milnerton/Montague Gardens)

Enter the fun run and as an optional extra – bring along some books (Beaches 4 Books) – make it 4.

Clear out all your kids old kiddies books.

Bring them along on race day and drop them off with us.

Who will the books go to.

Check out our Beautiful Future Project. We have identified 30 kids in Joe Slovo Park that we are working with. The books go to them and other ECD (Creches) in the area.

We have identified 5 ladies to be our hands on the ground, to help us with the reading projects and the entry fee goes towards paying their salaries as well as things like shelves to store the books on etc etc.

So a really fun day out in the sun and you are helping change some kids lives…

We are also raising funds to start up a library in Joe Slovo Park and to promote a reading/homework program with kids in the area. A big problem there is that there are no facilities near by for the kids to get books and encourage reading…so that’s where the funds raised from this run will go towards. Buying books and paying some local ladies from the community a monthly salary to help kids read, to encourage them taking a book home and bringing it back and swopping it for another one. Pretty cool huh :-)

Kids need to walk quite far to get to the library – which they are – so that GREAT

But the need to cross super busy Koeberg Road – which is NOT GREAT

They go there to use the reference books – which is GREAT

But they are tearing pages out cos they don’t have access to these books closer to home and they don’t have money for photo copies – which is NOT GREAT

But at least they are doing their homework – which is GREAT

But lets make it easier for them. (Also great ne)

Books in a classroom/in their homes that they can use to read and do research on.

Easy hay

Get dressed up in the most loudest (dunno if there is even a word like that) craziest luminous costume, super hero style, wedding dress, ag just come as you are (you don’t even need to dress up.

R10 per entry also gets donated back to the organisation of your choice. How cool is that…

So if you want to donate it to your school or church or any organisation – insert the name into the entry details and we will make sure they get the cash. If you want to give it back to the project just insert “Clean C” and we will put it towards more books en so voorts.

Where will it be held?

On the beach at Melkbosstrand just next to the NSRI station. No crossing of roads, choking on bus exhaust fumes or anything dangerous like that. Just 100% pure bliss on the beach at Muizenberg. Meet on the beach in front of the community centre/waterpark…you cant miss it.

Nou ja – laat rol katrol. Get cracking.

Distances…500m Nappy Dash – so kids 3 weeks n up can also take part.

2.5km – Walk/Run/jog/stroll/sprint/waddle and a 5km run/walk.
