ABOUT

Here at Greenpop the only thing we love more than trees is a good adventure. Give us the opportunity to trek through the Amazon or rub shoulders with respected environmentalists in Geneva and we won't think twice!

Unfortunately, being a jet setter wrecks havoc on your carbon emissions and negative impact on the environment. So what is the eco-conscious traveller to do? Plant a tree of course!

We all know that trees are experts at sequestering carbon. How much carbon? Well, that's where it gets a bit tricky. Depending on the tree species, climate, soil (and so on) the amount of carbon which a tree can remove from the atmosphere is highly variable. This makes ton for ton offsetting risky business. The good news is that, in the grand scheme of things, the math doesn't matter (here's looking at you Grade 5 teacher).

Trees not only sequester carbon but also provide habitats, reduce air and water pollution, and create beautiful spaces that we can be proud of. With so many amazing benefits, absorbing carbon is really just the cherry on top! That's why we think that planting trees when you travel (regardless of whether it will make you carbon neutral) is simply TREEmendous.

So go ahead and take a guess! Sponsor a tree for your roadtrip to Grahamstown, five for your family visit to London, or 100 for your company wide conference in Tokyo. Greenpop will plant them on your behalf in Africa's southernmost forest (the Platbos Forest, Overberg Region, South Africa), you will immediately receive a personalised certificate, and (no matter how you do the math) Mother Nature will thank you

Your tree will be one of the beautiful slow growing species that are endemic to the Platbos Forest. These include: White Milkwood, White Stinkwood, Wild Peach, Wild Olive, Pock Ironwood, Hard Pear, Bladder Nut, and Rock Alder.

About Greenpop

Greenpop is on a mission to (re)connect people with our planet. We plant trees and have fun doing it! We run urban greening and reforestation projects, spread environmental awareness wherever we go, and activate people through green festivals and workshops. Greenpop was founded in 2010 and has since planted over 70,000 indigenous and fruit trees at schools and other urban sites, community farms as well as forests across South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania. It's a Treevolution. Join us!
