The Cape Town Youth Choir will present a Christmas concert on Saturday 30 November at 7:30pm at the iconic St Mary's Cathedral in the heart of Cape Town.

The plans for the cathedral were drawn and accepted in 1841, building commenced in 1851 and was completed in 1927/1928. St Marys has some of the most brilliant acoustics in Cape Town!

Earlier this year, in July, the Cape Town Youth Choir undertook a wonderful tour to Greece, Italy and Austria where they took part in two international chamber choir competitions, winning the top price in Greece and placing second in Spittal an der Drau, Austria.

While the choir had several post tour concerts they also started preparing for their end-of-year concerts, which will consist mainly of brand new repertoire. This concert will include a couple of well-known Christmas Carols (Gaudete, Lully Lullay Lulla, Infant Holy), two works by Ola Gjeilo (O Magnum Mysterium and Ubi Caritas), works by Mendelssohn and Gustav Holst and African American Spirituals. A highlight will be a brand new commissioned arrangement of “Somerkersfees”, one of the best known Afrikaans carols written by Koos du Plessis.

The choir's latest cd, "Pakkanen" will be available for sale at the concert.
