Sudanese Climate Youth in Conflict

About

What is happening?

Intense clashes between Sudan’s military and the country’s main paramilitary force have killed hundreds of people and sent thousands fleeing for safety, as a burgeoning civil war threatens to destabilize the wider region. Humanitarian crises have been inflected on roughly 5 million people of the Khartoum area, as well as others in the Darfur region and in cities nationwide.

Living Crisis Amidst the Conflict

The World Health Organization has verified 28 attacks on health care in Sudan. Hospitals have collapsed, either struck by bombs or gunfire, or overwhelmed by the wounded. Families have lost water and electricity supplies

Markets have run short on food. The number of acutely food insecure people in Sudan is expected to increase by 2 million to 2.5 million in the next 3 to 6 months, if the conflict continues, according to the World Food Programme (WFP). The highest increase in food insecurity is expected in West Darfur, West Kordofan, Blue Nile, Red Sea and North Darfur.

Climate Youth Displacement

At least 550 people have been killed and over 4,900 injured since the fighting began, according to the Federal Ministry of Health (MoH) as of 1 May. Over 334,000 people are estimated to have now been internally displaced, 72% of whom are in West and South Darfur states, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

We hope to support our fellow Sudanese youth working in climate through this initiative. The initiative aims to fundraise for the needs of climate youth in Sudan that have played a big part in the protection of people and the planet, we must now protect them. We are fundraising to share their daily needs of 150 ZAR (South African Rands equating to 5,000 Sudanese pounds) for the following two weeks for 100 youth members.

100 x 150 ZAR/day x 14 days= 210,000 ZAR Total.
