About

Isiphambano Centre for Biblical Justice is a study and training centre dedicated to developing a theological and contextual response to racial and economic injustice within the South African context.

Our work has 4 distinct facets:

ENGAGING in robust theological study and contextual reflection on issues of racial and economic inequality in the South African context. To this end, we run study cohorts, and seminars (online and in person) and produce theological papers.

CHALLENGING the prevailing theological narratives and inherited paradigms of ministry that have sustained and even promoted injustice and racial inequality. To do this we host pilgrimages, story-telling events, and podcasts.

GENERATING both practical and theological resources in a variety of formats to assist churches and individuals to engage with and challenge issues of racial and economic inequality. We do this through the production of workbooks, teaching series, devotionals, and bible studies.

JOURNEYING with churches and church leaders, through relationships and processes of training, teaching, and consultation, as they seek to become more just communities of Christ-likeness. To this end, we provide consulting services and leadership training.

"Many circulating intertwining issues all over, of identity, direction (Africa to Europe, Europe to Africa), language (is English neutral and does it belong to everyone?), why listen to someone in Oxford to learn about African Christianity, yet of course, why not. All over, apparent claims of Africans having something important to contribute, in a world in which few want to listen to what they have to say, Africans included. (In formal and written ways.) "The Spirit is where this really is", but Spirit is an English term / concept ... ! 'We' have a duty to help Africans explore themselves (whites are needed for Africans to do African Christianity?) The white is left without a leg to stand on - but maybe that's correct / fair enough. Many more interlocking issues, some I don't want to mention."
