About

The SCCT was founded in 1972 as an adjunct to the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, performing major choral works each year under the baton of well-known guest conductors. Since 1992 the Choir has been an independent body and has promoted and managed its own concerts. While singing major choral works remains its main objective, the Choir performs smaller scale works as well. The SCCT aims to put on an average of 4 concerts per year. It consists of between 50 and 70 members from all walks of life with a common love of choral music The choir is directed by Levi Alexander and run by a committee headed by a chairperson and made up of choir members. The SCCT is a non-profit organisation and, as such, works hard to gain sponsorship and funding from corporates and private individuals.

"A tour de force!! The three qhoirs blended perfectly, as did the soloists. I was "blown away" by the Wind Ensemble and will be sure to look out for their future events."

"Apart from some members of the audience using their phones to photograph, thus distracting those around, it was beautiful"

"I am not commenting on everything well done. Simply a few extras: the wind band was at times overpowering the choir and definitely the soloist (especially her mid and lower notes disappeared). The nerves of the trumpeters got the better of them....The chosen tempi was a few times to fast. Especially the Sanctus lost its inner meaning due to this. And this I say with caution, as the old saying "Music is art, and art is taste, and taste differs" also plays a role. Then: the joy the choristers felt performing (adults and children), was visible - so great to see. Mr Hassen Khaka was more than just exceptional: his heart, soul and mind captured us all. "

"This was one of the best choir productions I’ve ever seen. The sound quality was unbelievable. The children’s behavior was impeccable. The scores performed were world class. It was really goose bump enspiring!"
