SmileFM 50 smiles campaign
About
Approximately one in every 1000 babies in Africa is born with a cleft condition. Babies born with cleft may be unable to feed properly, and may suffer from malnutrition and thirst.
One in 10 children born with a cleft
will die before their first birthday.
For
these children, a relatively quick, simple operation results in a life-changing
smile. We strive to ensure that every child with a cleft lip or palate has
access to this level of surgical care. Cleft conditions can be repaired in
roughly 45 minutes with a relatively inexpensive (R5500) surgery.
We're
trying to raise R275 000 to fund corrective surgeries for 50 people with cleft
conditions.
