Ascendance is a community-nurtured event and concept. A home for friendship, afro-electronic music and elated dance. Presented by a community of dancers, DJs and afro-electronic music selectors. 

Inspired and catalysed by NYC-based Descendents.rec, Ascendance is a collective and niche event series that aims to be a brave and beautiful gathering space for Cape Town’s dance community and afro-electronic enthusiasts along with striving to be an inclusive and friendly space for nurturing connections and celebrating culture. We hope this event is the first of many such spaces and we are open to collaboration and co-curation with artists, venues and promoters. 

Our symbol is inspired by the murmuration (a large group of birds, usually starlings, that all fly together and change direction together), which speaks to our core values of Celebration, Care and Collaboration as a community and eventing collective.
