Cape Town, South Africa – The Queens Lounge, nestled in the heart of The Waterfront, is proud to announce the launch of its highly anticipated concert series, Casks and Chords, Curated by renowned Cape Town bassist and composer Nick Ford, this six-part musical event will bring an eclectic array of jazz performances to the sophisticated and intimate setting of Queens Lounge. Every second Wednesday, from September to November, jazz enthusiasts will gather to experience a carefully crafted musical journey paired with exceptional cocktails and world-class whiskies.
The Concert Series Line-Up:
Casks and Chords promises an exciting range of musical styles, providing something for every jazz lover. Each performance will take place at 8:00 PM, with doors opening at 7:30 PM for a night of elegant entertainment.
- 11 September: Kicking off the series is the refined vocalist Penelope Radsma, joined by her quartet, delivering sophisticated classic jazz standards. Expect timeless melodies and graceful improvisation.
- 25 September: Bassist and composer Nick Ford takes center stage with his original jazz project, showcasing the creativity and talent that has made him a rising star in the South African jazz scene.
- 9 October: Lady Felicity and the Trumpets will keep the energy high with an upbeat and groovy celebration of South African jazz, highlighting the country's rich musical heritage.
- 23 October: The Hot Club of Cape Town, led by guitarist Daniel Franks, will captivate the audience with their lively blend of swing and Gypsy Jazz, bringing a unique and energetic flair to the stage.
- 6 November: Camissa Knights, a Cape Jazz band led by acclaimed trumpeter Muneeb Hermans, will present a collection of local Cape Town favorites, blending rhythm, tradition, and vibrant harmonies.
- 20 November: Closing out the series will be none other than South Africa's legendary guitarist Louis Mhlanga. His band promises a captivating performance filled with technical brilliance and soulful interpretations of jazz standards.
The Venue: Queens Lounge
Since its inception in 2022, Queens Lounge has established itself as a premier destination for Cape Town’s most discerning patrons. Located in a restored heritage building at The Waterfront, this cocktail and whisky lounge is the brainchild of Yossi Schwartz, a true connoisseur of life. The venue exudes elegance, offering an experience steeped in refinement, charm, and sophistication. Guests can indulge in expertly crafted cocktails and an array of rare whiskies, each selected to match the ambiance of the lounge and the evening’s performances.
Queens Lounge is where mixology meets art, with bartenders delivering bespoke creations that elevate the drinking experience. Whisky aficionados will be delighted by the curated selection of premium spirits from around the globe, allowing guests to embark on a journey of discovery and appreciation for the craft.
The Organiser: Nick Ford
Nick Ford is a dynamic figure in Cape Town's jazz community, both as a performer and as an advocate for local music. His vision for Casks and Chords was to create a unique, intimate concert series that allows musicians and audiences to connect deeply through the art of live music. With each act chosen for its diversity and excellence, Nick has carefully curated a program that highlights the richness of the local and international jazz scene.
"I wanted to bring a variety of musical experiences to a venue that is not just visually stunning but also enhances the listening experience," says Ford. "The Queens Lounge offers an ideal backdrop for this, combining the sophistication of live jazz with the warmth of a perfectly crafted cocktail or whisky."
Event Details:
- Concerts begin at 8:00 PM, with arrival suggested at 7:30 PM for seating.
- Semi-formal dress code is recommended, though guests are encouraged to dress in what makes them feel comfortable and elegant.
- The event is strictly for those aged 21 and over.
