African International Humanitarian Law Initiative

About

AIHLI LEGACY is an e-learning initiative based in South Africa that educates and raises awareness on pertinent human rights violations on the continent and globally by focusing on thematic areas; Environmental Justice, Children and Undocumented Persons, Peace and Security, Research and Publications through its offered Leadership and Mentorship Programs for community leaders, activists, journalist and scholars to develop informed and impactful decision makers.

AIHLI LEGACY has administered an 8-part advocacy series titled "AIHLI LEGACY 4 Humanity Podcast" with the tag line "Put Yourself in their Shoes". The purpose of the discussion is to both educate and raise awareness on diverse aspects impacting individuals that are directly or indirectly impacted by being an undocumented person falling within these 8 thematic areas of vulnerable groups of people which are commonly related to asylum seekers, refugees, internally displaced persons, migrants and their families, smuggled or trafficked persons, children and women's rights.

With due consideration to the diverse reasons that lead anyone to fall within the need to seek a legal status from another state. AIHLI LEGACY also expresses the stories of those in the frontline of advocacy needing assistance by fostering collaborations with organizations and community leaders driving the necessary remedies through supporting communities and leaders on their efforts. The advocacy engagement forms part of the efforts administered to combat historical injustices with the identification of applicable remedies for informed decision making critical so as to hold decisions makers accountable.

Preceding the advocacy campaigns AIHLI LEGACY intends to host the International Human Rights Day Virtual Conference under the theme "Undocumented" on 09 - 10 December 2024 in collaboration with the University of Stirling. Our primary aim is to create a space for impactful dialogues with the goal of seeking to apply practical remedies to historical human rights violations concerning undocumented persons by showcasing multi-stakeholder advocacy approach to remedying these subjects both in Africa and the United Kingdom.
